MCSO: Human remains found off Busby Road

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) - The Mobile County Sheriff's Office confirms human remains were located in a wooded area off  Busby Road.  

The lone dirt road, which is just off Old Pascagoula, remains taped off as deputies hold the scene overnight. Authorities said they plan to return in the morning.

“So far, we've collected what remains we could find,” said MCSO Lt. Paul Burch. “Those will be transported to the state lab.”

Investigators said the skeletal remains were discovered by a nearby resident who was digging through a debris pile for scrap metal.

FOX10 News spoke with the man who made the discovery.

Robert Fisher said he was trying to pull out a piece of tin from a pile of debris when what he believed was a human skull rolled out.

“I jumped off the pile after I realized that it was a skeleton,” said Fisher. “I ran back out to the road out there, and that's when I called my landlord.”

Fisher said he then notified the sheriff’s office who immediately set out to investigate. He said the remains were not in-tact.

“Once I seen the teeth, I realized what it was and then I got out of there,” said Fisher.

Investigators told FOX10 the remains were mixed into the dump pile with no visible signs that anyone tried to hide it.

Officials with the sheriff’s office said they plan to look through open missing persons cases and try to match dental records and any possible clothing or belongings that were found in the debris.

“There's a lot of debris. Some was clothing and it’s impossible to tell whether the clothing belonged with the body,” said Lt. Burch.
