WILMER, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile County deputies searched a home in Wilmer Thursday, January 24, and questioned two people in relation to a missing person’s case.

Authorities began the search for Garland Ford, 77, in December but his family said they were suspicious long before deputies got involved.

Deputies said they questioned Jessie and Polly Hopper about Ford's disappearance. Officials said they believe Ford was living with the couple at the time of his disappearance.

"I don't know where he is or nothing about him," said Polly Hopper.

Ford’s daughter, Karen Ford, said Ford moved from Arkansas with the Hoppers in March 2012.

"He couldn’t tell us where he was. He never said he wouldn’t; he said, ‘I can’t, but I’ll be back,’” said Ford.

Months went by and Ford said she got worried. She said her father had a heart condition. She said in their last conversation, he told her he wanted to come home. Ford said that was in September, and no one has seen him since.

"There are a lot of suspicious circumstances involving his disappearance," said Sergeant Robbie Riddick with the sheriff’s office.

Riddick was among the deputies searching the Hopper's property.

Jessie Hopper said Ford is no where around.

“If he were around here, I’d be the first person to tell them. This is the second time they have arrested me and tried to put me in jail over this," Jessie Hopper said.

Riddick said the Hoppers told deputies Ford left their home on foot.

"Due to his age, he has multiple medical problems. We don’t believe that’s true," said Riddick.

Polly Hopper told FOX10 News Ford went back to Arkansas.

Karen Ford said her father couldn’t have possibly made it to Arkansas, and she believes he has died and no one reported it.

"My dad has three kids and a wife, and he has brothers and sisters. And we need to know what happened. I know in my heart my dad’s not living, but every day I expect to get a phone call. And I know it's not realistic but I expect it, and I need to know it's not going to happen,” said Ford.

The Hoppers were released after questioning, and haven’t been charged.

Deputies said if you have any information about the case, call the Mobile County Sheriff's Office.
