MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Officials said a tip from the US Marshal Service led Mobile County Sheriff’s deputies to arrest a sex offender out of Michigan, whose been listed as an absconder.
“He had been in compliance up until the previous year. And when he disappeared from there, I believe they began looking for him and the trail led to Mobile,” said Sgt. Joe Mahoney with the MCSO.
Deputies said Rob McGough turned up in Mobile and has been living in the city for at least three months and failed to register as a sex offender.
Authorities in Michigan said they last made contact with the convicted offender in March of 2011.
Transcripts show McGough was arrested for having sex with a 13-year-old in 1998.
“It mentioned that yes, he was aware that she was underage. He didn't realize she was 13. He thought she was 14, 15 years old,” said Mahoney.
McGough was a grounds keeper at the Country Club Woods Apartments in West Mobile, where he also lived.
The US Marshal Service is looking at applying Federal Charges under the “Adam Walsh Act,” which tracks and sets standards for sex offenders.
