MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile County Sheriff’s Deputies said a group of thieves went on a shopping spree, but left their money at home.

The suspects stole more than 500 items in one day, and the suspects really thought this one out.

The suspects took everything from Polo shirts to children’s shoes.

Lori Myles with the Mobile County Sheriff’s office showed us the goods were sprawled across three tables.

"In desperate times, people get greedy," said Myles.

After a traffic stop, deputies found all of it in the trunk of a car.

Myles said the driver and passengers didn't have much to say.

"We don't know what's in the trunk of the car, and at that point, the deputies knew there was something going on,” said Myles.

Deputies said the suspects were identified as Linda Hobbs, Roy Cannon, Darrel Jones and Laraye Lewis from Pensacola.

Authorities said they hit up some popular stores at the outlets in Gulf Port and a department store in Biloxi walking out with more than 500 items using a pretty clever technique.

"They were thinking a lot outside of the box," said Myles.

Myles said the suspects carried around what looked like normal shopping bags on the outside, but on the inside they rigged it to get through the censors and it’s pretty intricate

"If they worked as hard at something else, perhaps their jobs they might be presidents of their companies,” said Myles.

Instead, they are in Mobile County Metro Jail.

Since the crime happened in Mississippi, that’s where the four suspects will be charged. They will stay in Mobile until they are extradited.
