Media watches surveillance of shooting

MOBILEm Ala. (WALA) - On Thursday, October 11, members of the media viewed the surveillance video which captured the last few moments of University of South Alabama freshman Gil Collar's life.

Authorities said Officer Trevis Austin shot the teen student after Collar charged at him numerous times.

Investigators believe the USA Freshman was on LSD at the time of the shooting.

The surveillance video shown was about 2:43 seconds long.

In it, you first see a naked Collar approach the front door of the USA police station. He reaches for the door and then walks away.

Moments later, Collar returns to a nearby window where he aggressively bangs on it seven times with his right first, almost as if he were trying to shatter the glass.

Collar is seen walking back out of frame, and mumbling to himself.

Officer Trevis Austin came running out the front door with his gun drawn.

Austin sees Collar in front of him. The naked teen begins to walk toward him in an aggressive fighting manner and at one point appears to take-on a wrestling stance.

The officer continues to walk backwards across the front patio of the USA Police Department. The walk continues for roughly 30 seconds around to a grassy area at the front of the building.

Once by the main street, you see Collar charge at the officer quickly leading him to shoot the unarmed teen.

Sheriffs Deputies said Collar was shot with a .40 caliber bullet. Video shows the teen lifting himself up off the ground and moving once again toward Officer Austin and a second Officer who arrived on the scene.

Collar then turns around and walks back toward a grassy area where he finally falls over and officers place the teen in handcuffs.

At no point in the video,. do you see the teen placing his hands on Austin.

Many continue to question if Austin should have exited the building with his gun drawn at all.
