MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The St. Jude Memphis to Mobile runners are almost home. They started the 391 mile relay in Memphis on Wednesday.

Before starting the run, they had the chance to tour St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The facility treats children of all ages who are battling cancer and other terminal illnesses. The hospital also researches new ways to treat cancer, and shares their research with hospitals all over the world.

Nearly three dozen runners are taking part in the third annual event, including a St. Jude doctor.

WCBI in Central Mississippi caught up with the runners as they left West Point Thursday.

The final leg of the relay run starts around 5 a.m. in Citronelle.

The runners will take Highway 45 to University Boulevard, then a left onto Old Shell Road, a right on to Ann Street, left onto Government Boulevard, through the tunnel and on to Battleship Park.

Keep your eyes open, and help welcome the runners home.

The group is always looking for more people to join the run. You do not need to be a fast runner or even a long distance runner. Each runner runs two to six miles at a time. So, the most important thing is giving of your time.

Donations are always being accepted.
