MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile Fire Rescue investigators said people cooking meth are behind a fire off Dauphin Island Parkway, Wednesday.
Now one person is behind bars and another fighting for his life.
Mobile Fire Rescue said the blaze injured a man, burning him over 75 percent of his body.
Investigators said the fire was contained to one unit at River Landing Club. They also said it was caused by a meth lab explosion.
Now, Angel Jones is in trouble with the law. She was picked up and charged with manufacturing a controlled substance.
Mobile Police said if the man survives he will be charged, too.
Larry Lartigue lives at River Landing Club and spoke to Fox Ten News about what he saw.
"I seen the smoke, seen the people come out and the boy was burned up real bad," said Lartigue. "I was real surprised and never expected it here. We have never had anything like this here."
While River Landing Club is a gated community and far removed from the main road some of the units back up to other homes near Dog River.
Carl Wainright's is one of them.
"It is usually a quiet place and I have lived here for 20 years, just never had anything happen like that. Maybe a noise but nothing like that, I was real surprised," said Wainwright.
So was Monika Baldwin when we shared the information with her that police suspect Angel Jones was cooking meth yards from her home.
"I had no idea I figured this was a great area, no one has been here to talk to us about what is going on, quite a surprise," said Baldwin.
Mobile Fire Rescue said the explosion happened in the middle of the day. Mobile Fire Rescue said in addition to Jones and the burned man there was a third person inside the condo.
No word on if that person will face charges, too.
At the time of her arrest Jones had two warrants, one for selling a controlled substance and the other for receiving a controlled substance.
