MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Firefighters with the Mobile Fire Rescue saved some pets from a burning home but not all of them were the cute and cuddly kind.

COOKING FIRE

Fire officials said a blaze broke out shortly before 9 am at a mobile home in a mobile home park on Dawes Road.

A man who lives in the park said, "I heard the screams, and I had walked outside to see where the screams were coming from, and I had seen smoke come out her trailer."

He said he asked the woman who lives in the home what happened.

The neighbor said, "She was walking to the trash can to take some trash out and had left a skillet on the stove with grease in it."

Investigators ruled the fire accidental, from unattended cooking. Fire officials estimate damage to the mobile home at about $15,000.

The neighbor said, "It's still a devastating loss. I hate for it to have to happen."

Still, not all was lost.

DOGS AND SNAKES

The woman who lives in the home got out unhurt, and firefighters rescued all but one her pets.

A fire official on the scene said, "They had a couple of dogs we pulled out.  It looks like they're going to be okay, so far. They had several snakes that we got out."

Fire officials said they rescued one king snake and two albino Pythons. The firefighters had to give the rescued Chihuahua and Poodle oxygen when they got out of the house. A fourth snake didn't make it out.
