Mother forgives son's killer

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - No one desires to organize a candlelight vigil, especially for someone who died so young. But when a terrible nightmare becomes a reality, a vigil brings peace during chaos.

On July 15th, 25-year-old Kendrick Files was shot in the head at a gas station on Navco Road. He later died in a hospital, and the case is unsolved.

Kendrick’s mother, Jacques Files said, "It’s the grace of God that's keeping me up.”

The case is still under investigation.

So on Friday night, friends and family consoled one another and sought comfort from God.

Files said, "This is my only child. I'm not getting anymore. I'll see him when I get to heaven; that's it."

A murderer stole her son's life, but Kendrick's mother said her love is beyond words.

She said, "I forgive him. And actually, I love whoever killed him. Because that's what Christ wants me to do, is love."

Kendrick's life was cut too short, and as the family begins the healing process, this vigil brings sense in the midst of the senseless.
