MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Authorities said a teenage girl was shot in the face Monday around 1 p.m.

Police said they believe she was shot by her 15-year-old boyfriend during what they say was a domestic dispute.

The girl was taken to Providence Hospital where she was transported to USA Medical Center.

“When we received the call at Providence, hospital staff gave us some info that led us to this residence,” said Mobile Police Department spokesperson Cpl. Chris Levy. “When we arrived, were able to take the juvenile into custody and that’s were we were able to determine where it occured.”

Investigators said the boy has been arrested and is currently at Strickland Youth Center. They believe the shooting was intentional.

“We charged him with domestic violence first degree which means during a dispute, he armed himself with a gun and shot her in the face,” Levy said.

Neighbors said they heard a different story from the boy’s family who lives a few doors down.

“From what we were told, they were actually at the house in his room. He stepped out, and she shot herself,” neighbor Scott Allen said.

Allen said he has never had any trouble with the teen and doesn’t believe the boy pulled the trigger.

“I don’t think he had anything to do with it. He doesn’t seem like the type that would do that. I’ve know him for six years,” said Allen.

The DA’s office said the bullet went under the girl’s right eye and came out her left.

“She is still considered critical, but she is stable and showing signs of improvement,” Levy said.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
