THEODORE, Ala. (WALA) - James Skipper, a 4-year-old child, has drowned in a pool at a home on Red Oak Drive in Theodore, according to Mobile Police
Ashley Rains, with the Mobile Police Department said the child drowned at the home Sunday.
Neighbors on Red Oak Drive say they were outside enjoying their pool when they saw emergency crews pull up next door.
"They stopped here and right between the trees is where everything happened and it scared me because at that time I didn't know if it was an adult or a child," said Holly, who lives next door.
The neighbors said police and EMS workers were trying to help a 4-year-old boy.
"We heard them talking that he just swallowed water, I think he just went under," said neighbor Stella Janssen.
Mobile police say the child was found unresponsive in the middle of the pool.
Janssen and her granddaughter recently moved to the area and had barely met the neighbors.
"We seen him when they were bringing him out and trying to resuscitate him and put him on the stretcher," said Janssen, "He was kind of gasping and kind of crying a little bit. The firemen said it's OK son we've got you. They were kind of working on his chest."
Mobile Fire-Rescue said they rushed the child to Mobile Infirmary West Medical Center, police say the child died there.
Police said there was adult supervision at the home where the drowning happened.
