MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A two month investigation in Mobile concluded in the seizure of multiple containers of finished and unfinished synthetic marijuana, 86 high-powered weapons, and $26,620 in cash.
Mobile Police Chief Micheal T. Williams said all the goods were tied to the synthetic marijuana, or ‘Spice’ business.
Williams said it’s a business city leaders are cracking down on.
“For those people selling it, you better watch your back, because I've got people coming for you,” said Chief Williams in front of media cameras Monday afternoon.
Mobile Mayor Sam Jones and other city leaders attended the press conference at MPD headquarters to view the results of this investigation, conducted by MSENT and the Narcotics and Vice Unit.
Authorities said a bulk of the goods were seized after they executed four search warrants Monday morning.
Officers arrested 26-year-old David Parker, 22-year old-Christian Ice and 27-year-old Kyle Purvis after finding more than 700 pounds of unfinished “Spice,” three gallons of chemicals used to make the drug, several guns, and three pounds of finished synthetic marijuana.
All three men have been charged with distribution of a controlled substance.
Authorities said the high-powered weapons seized are proof of the dangers of the ‘Spice’ business.
“What I see before me are AK-47s, 44 caliber weapons, 50 caliber rifles. Those types of weapons are meant to kill people,” said Chief Williams.
“This for us is one of the most important things we've seen happen as it relates to narcotics busts in the city of mobile and in this area,” said Mobile Mayor Sam Jones.
Officials said they expect to make more arrests as the investigation continues.
