MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile Police are investigating a burglary on Pollard Lane in Mobile that ended in gunfire.

Cpl. Chris Levy with the Mobile Police Department said the victim, Daniel Chappel, saw a male suspect run toward the rear of the residence to warn two other suspects who were removing lawn equipment from a shed.

“I see a heavy set guy holding our weed eater and leaf blower. And all of a sudden when he sees me he drops everything, pulls out a revolver, and shoots at me,” said Chappel.

The bullet grazed Chappel arm.

Police said the three men escaped to Maitre Park, which backs up to the residence.

“This guy definitely had a point on his mind,” said the teen. “He was getting away with something whether it meant life or death.”

Chappel’s family said they have never really had a problem in the neighborhood until recently.

Rebecca Elsworth told FOX10 that she has six children total living in the home and is pushing for her neighbors to ban together.

“They couldn't believe it,” said Ellsworth, who the teen considers his adoptive mother. “They said we're going to pull together and all the new people in the neighborhood either need to get with the program or they gotta go.”

Authorities said they have some good leads but no arrests have been made.
