MOBILE,Ala. (WALA) - Mobile police said they have arrested a 17-year-old in connection with a shooting that happened on Springhill Avenue Friday.

They said they received a call about 9:30 a.m. about a shooting behind a business at 1205 Springhill Avenue.

VICTIM INFORMATION

Police are not identifying the victim.

Corporal Christopher Levy with the Mobile Police Department said, "We have a 52-year-old male with an apparent gunshot wound, who was transported to USA Medical Center.  Right now, his injuries don't appear life threatening."

POSSIBLE SHOOTOUT

Mobile police said the victim may have been involved in a shootout.

Levy said, "That's the information that we have right now, is that both the suspect and the victim actually exchanged gunfire during the incident."

Tommie Mills said he was across the street when the shooting happened, and saw the victim.

Mills said, "He was running from up that way and shooting guns, about 15 shots is all I can say, about 15 shots.  (They) put him down right there in that corner."

BYSTANDER TRIES TO HELP

Alexis Booth said she was in a cleaner’s across the street and talked with the victim.

Booth said, "I was scared of the gunshots. I didn't want to come out and get shot or nothing, so I came out after, and I seen him just bleeding, and I asked him what was wrong, and he said they just shot him and robbed him."

ARREST MADE

Police said they have arrested 17-year-old Romello Funches in connection with the shooting. They said he is also responsible for a robbery that happened in a parking lot on Dauphin Street on Jan. 10.
