MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office has made two arrests in connection to a murder that happened more than two years ago. One of those arrests happened in Arnold, Missouri, but the suspect is now in Mobile Metro Jail.

Nearly three years of investigating put Scott Jones behind bars here in Mobile. Authorities also charged Anthony Parker, he is currently serving time an Alabama prison for another crime. Both are charged in the brutal death of an elderly man.

"These cases sometimes just take a very long time. You have to go through a process,” said Lori Myles with the Sheriff’s Office.

They are both charged with murder and attempted murder.

Investigators said in February 2010, two came into the home in the middle of the night and brutally beat their elderly neighbors Lawrence Hutson and Elizabeth Duggin

Hutson was killed and Duggin was seriously injured.

Soon after the brutal crime, Duggin's grandson Andre Sales was charged but those charges have been dropped.

Officials didn't give up, and soon caught up with Parker who is behind bars at Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore.

"He is serving time for property crimes,” said Myles.

Deputies tracked down Jones at his home in Arnold, Missouri. He was extradited to Mobile on Tuesday, Dec 18.

"We had knowledge of the two of them. They lived close by. When they were both her in Mobile, so it was just putting the pieces together,” said Myles.

Parker was scheduled for release from prison in 2016 but of course that will change if he is convicted of these new charges.
