PRICHARD, ALA. (WALA) - Wednesday's HiQ academic contest was originally scheduled to take place in the Murphy High School auditorium. The Christmas Day tornado forced a change of plans.
The Murphy campus, which was heavily damaged by the twister is now closed to students and faculty. VIgor High School offered the use of its auditorium for Murphy's "home" match.
In addition to being displaced to a new temporary campus, Murphy's HiQ team lost some of its study material in the storm. A class period set aside for match preparation was eliminated, as was the opportunity to stay after school to practice.
Murphy scored 15 points by halftime. Vigor had earned 6, B.C. Rain 0.
By the end of the match, the Panthers had triumphed, scoring 22 points to Vigor's 11 and B.C. Rain's 4.
