MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Pictures of Raymond Boykin are all some who knew the 29-year old musician have left to remember him.

Mobile police said after Boykin tried to break up a fight at Club Casino in west Mobile early Sunday, Jeremy McDaniels punched Boykin in the head knocking him unconscious.

Boykin didn’t make it to the hospital before succumbing to his injuries, according to police.

“His dad told me he had gone with a friend who lives two houses down to the see the Alabama game and when they left there, they came to the location where it happened and within just a few minutes, it was over,” said Leighton Dees, who lives next to Boykin’s parents.

Dees said he moved down the street from his parent’s home and would visit often with his kids. He said he spoke with Boykin’s father, Mike, about the tragedy.

Dees said a friend knocked on Boykin's parent’s house around 5:30 Sunday morning and told them their son was on the way to a hospital and not breathing.

FOX10 learned Boykin has two children and a wife. A benefit is scheduled for November 23 at Soul Kitchen in Downtown Mobile.

Meanwhile, homicide detectives are continuing their investigation. McDaniels has been released from jail on bond. He is charged with manslaughter.
