MOBILE, Ala.(WALA) - Some neighbors on Delmar Drive said they want things back to normal. The area has been in the spotlight after an attack on their street put a man in critical condition.
Since the 1970s, Max Mazzarella has lived on Delmar Drive and has raised his children there. But now, after the Mobile Police Department said a group of people beat up a man just two houses down from him, he said he’s ready for a change.
"We added a lot to the house. We probably won't get everything that we put into it. But we made the decision to move,” said Mazzarella.
Some neighbors said they aren't going anywhere.
“This is my home, and this is where I want to stay. I’m not afraid of anybody down the street,” said a neighbor who didn’t want to be identified.
But, the neighbor said he wants things back to normal in the area.
"(I want) peace and quiet, back to where it was."
Marsha Skipper lives on Delmar and said rumors about what exactly happened on the street have only made things worse.
“We are getting afraid that something is going to balloon into a horrible situation, and we are all scared. We are tired of it,” said Skipper.
Skipper said she wants her neighbors to talk about what happened and how they can move forward.
"They all have families and children. And we all need to get together, not all this confusion and bickering back and forth,” said Skipper.
Cpl. Chris Levy from the Mobile Police Department said officers already assigned to the area have been told to keep a closer patrol on the neighborhood.
