Neighbors react to Racine Ave. arrest

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - James Gorum, 80, said he is thrilled the Mobile Police Department made an arrest in the shooting death of Wendy Fisher.

He said he was at his home on Racine Avenue watching television when he heard gunshots Saturday.

"We heard gunshots and came out to see all the commotion out there," said Gorum.

Police said the gunshots were fired at Wendy Fisher near her home Saturday, when she yelled at a driver speeding through the neighborhood.

MPD arrested 17-year-old Trayon Washington for her murder Wednesday.

Some neighbors on Racine thought the gun-shots fired at Fisher Saturday were fireworks.

"I was in the kitchen cooking supper when I heard boom, boom, boom!" said one neighbor who didn't want to be identified.

Now, five days after the shooting neighbors said it's been quiet except for traffic noise. 

Two officers were posted on the street Thursday morning, scanning cars as they drove by.  Neighbors say people often speed down Racine Avenue.

"They come through flying. It's a side street so they come through flying sometimes," said David Jones.

"They speed down here, real fast," said Gorum.

The speed limit on Racine Avenue is 25 mph.
