New Azalea Trail Maids named

50 girls will represent Mobile County

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Mobile Jaycees have announced Mobile County's 2013-2014 Azalea Trail Court, comprised of the best and brightest high school girls in the county.  They serve as representatives of the county.

One hundred interviews at the county level are conducted each year to fill 50 Trail Maid vacancies. Individual high schools conduct their own interviews to determine who will compete.  Each school is allotted a certain number of interviews based upon the number of girls in their junior class as compared to the number of females in the combined junior classes of all high schools in Mobile County.

Trail Maids are selected on their knowledge of current events, knowledge of local history and attractions, general awareness and professional presentation as well as their grades.  To ensure that the selections are fair, the Azalea Trail board brings in three judges from outside of Mobile to interview each applicant.  The judges are tasked with selecting the 50 best applicants, no matter which school the girls attend.  In addition to the interview, grades also count as a significant portion of the selection process.

On Sunday, December 16, members of the incoming court will learn the color of dress they will wear.  They will also learn which girl has been selected Queen of the Azalea Trail.  The following list shows the name of the new Trail Maid and the school which she attends.
