MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The streets of downtown Mobile came alive in anticipation of the city's New Year’s Eve celebration.
Local bands performed. New businesses and bars also opened their doors for the first time along Dauphin Street on New Year’s Eve.
“I couldn't pick a better night,” said Mathew Golden, co-owner of LODA Bier Garten. “It's sink or swim, and we're going to swim like we're in the Olympics man.”
Many people visiting the downtown area said they see 2013 as a new beginning and many have put much thought into their New Year’s resolutions.
“To make better grades,” said one student.
“Have a good time with your friends and your family,” said another child.
Tourists also got in on the action.
Mobile City Councilman Fred Richardson said all hotels downtown are booked and the tourists have already flocked down to the port city.
“It's going to be on. Everybody's excited,” said Richardson. “I've hardly met any people from mobile. They're here from all over the country.”
The Commodores headlined a concert downtown, followed by a laser light show, MoonPie drop and fireworks display.
