MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - In light of recent events, FOX10 News wanted to dig deeper into the police department at the University of South Alabama. We were unable to speak to any member on camera, but here’s what we know:

The University of South Alabama police department employs 18 police officers. It also has 13 administrative officers, including the chief of police and deputy chief of police.

Along with those officers, there are five security officers on the force. The other positions are made up of dispatchers, clerks and parking service workers.

According to the campus police website , all sworn officers have completed the minimum standards for peace officers in the state of Alabama. The website also says university police have full arrest powers.

FOX10 News went further and inspected the certification guide. The guide says each applicant must complete 480 hours of basic training at an approved academy.

University officials did not respond to FOX10's question of whether officers can use stun guns and pepper spray.
