MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile Fire-Rescue continues to investigate a house fire that damaged three homes Elmira Street Wednesday night. Investigators are still looking into the cause of that fire.
Flames soared from a two alarm fire on Elmira Street Wednesday, March 14. When Mobile Fire-Rescue arrived, three houses were involved.
Now, the investigation continues, and some said this neighborhood is no stranger to arson.
'It's gotten to be routine where we just wake up and we know at some point in the next couple of weeks, there's going to be another one," said resident Daniel Moreau.
We spoke with Moreau back in January. At that time, there were 9-10 homes that had been torched in the arson investigation. Could last night's be added to that number?
"We do know the property isn't owned by the same person that owns most of the ones that have been burned in the past, it's not connected that way," said Steve Huffman with Mobile Fire-Rescue.
Huffman said it cannot be ruled out. The arson investigation goes back to 2011. The department believes some of the fires may be related to a murder that happened in Mobile County, and that it's possible the fires are revenge, part of an ongoing dispute. Residents like Moreau, are just worried.
"Sure they are, I would be if I lived down there. We're concerned about it, too. The problem is we can go in and determine how it was set. We can determine if they're all connected but what we need is who did it," Huffman said.
In the meantime, those in the area are fed up and are wondering what is next.
"Do we have to wait till everyone's houses burn down? I don't know what's going on," Moreau said.
Wednesday night's fire started around 8:30. Fortunately, no one was hurt. If you have any information on the most recent fire or the arson investigation, you're asked to call Mobile Fire-Rescue at 208-MFRD.
