MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile Police say 81-year-old Mervin McKinnis died after he lost control of his car Tuesday evening.

Police said McKinnis was traveling eastbound on Conti Street but lost control of his car near the corner of Bayou Street at  5:55 p.m.

Detectives believe that the man may have had a medical emergency that caused him to lose control of the car and they do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved.

They say his car crashed into two power poles and a tree.

McKinnis was transported to Mobile Infirmary Medical Center where he later died.
