THEODORE, Ala. (WALA) - The Mobile County Sheriff’s Department said a man is in stable condition after he was shot during what they call a domestic dispute in the St. Elmo community on Saturday.
The MCSO said Charles Pendegrass was shot after a fight with Norman Smith, who lives with Pendegrass’s daughter and her mother. The MCSO said the case will be turned over to the Grand Jury.
Smith told deputies Pendegrass went to the home on Half Mile Rd. demanding to see his daughter. Smith said he asked him to leave, but he refused. At that point, Smith said he grabbed a shotgun that was leaning by the door.
Smith said they fought over the gun and, after the brief struggle, Smith fired into Pendegrass’s abdomen.
Authorities said Pendegrass has a history of documented cases with the sheriff’s office involving harassment and physical violence with the mother of his child.
