Mallory Owens opens up about beating, aftermath

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Thanksgiving assault victim Mallory Owens spoke to FOX10 News about the drama that has unfolded involving her and girlfriend Ally Hawkins’ family.

Hawkins’ brother, Travis Hawkins, Jr., is accused of beating Owens on Thanksgiving Day. She was taken to the hospital and he was charged with second degree assault.

Thursday, November 30, Ally Hawkins told FOX10 News she believes Hawkins, Jr. attacked Owens because of previous decisions the couple made involving drugs and sex.

"He found out that me and Mallory had done prostitution,” said Ally. “We were really bad in drugs. The first time we both did it together. And the second time it wasn't like that. But I don't blame her for it all the way because I could have said no."

After Ally Hawkins’ confession, a written statement came from Owens.

The letter is written from Owens’ point of view with statements such as:

“I believe he intended to kill me," "Travis Hawkins Jr. has been seen following my family,” and “I will not go back there (to the Hawkins’ house.”)

On Dec. 3, however, Owens said she did not write the statement. According to Owens, much of the information is false.

“The statement was released, and I didn’t know until after it was released. I think it’s things we had talked about, but I don’t know really,” Owens said.

She said her attorney wrote the letter and she agrees with “some of it”.

The main message she wanted to get out to the public was an apology to the Hawkins’ family.

“I don’t want to hurt them. I don’t feel that way. I don’t have hatred towards them or anything,” she said.

Owens confirmed Ally Hawkins’ statements about the prostitution and drugs but said that’s between the two of them.

“I’m not going to not be with the person I care about and love. I love my family to death, but I want them to support me. They don’t want me around Alex (Ally) but you know, that’s what I’m going to do,” Owens said.

She said there have been rumors she is pocketing money coming in to help with her medical bills, but said that’s going into a separate account, and she has not personally seen any of it.

Owens said she and Ally Hawkins plan to move across the bay together.

She said she wants the district attorney's office to deal with the charges against her accused attacker as it sees fit.

"I want to move past this. I want the trial, and I do want justice for myself. I do want that because no one should be able to get away with that, but I just want to move past this," said Owens.
