Police continue to investigate attempted enticement

CITRONELLE, Ala. (WALA) - The Citronelle Police Department has identified two suspects in the case of an attempted attempted child enticement at the local elementary school.

Citronelle Police Chief Shane Stringer said he's pumped up the police presence at McDavid Jones Elementary School after three students said a man tried to kidnap them.

Chief Stringer said two suspects have been identified, one is the parent of a student at the school and the other is a known sex offender.

Police said neither one has confessed.

Meanwhile, the Mobile County Public School system said it has interviewed the students involved.

"In this case, the students were interviewed together. And it's the best way for us to find out what happened and hopefully get to the bottom of it," said spokesperson for the Mobile County Public School System Nancy Pierce.

Chief Stringer said nearly a week ago, a man tried to lure three students from the school by telling them he was a substitute teacher or assistant principal. It happened in the morning hours.

The school system confirmed the incident Friday.

"Every moment is a teachable moment, whether at school or at home. When dealing with strangers, (we) have to have the parents talk to them about what to do and the school can reinforce that, too," said Pierce.
