BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala. (WALA) - A man in Bayou La Batre was arrested on Monday after police said he was drunk and ran his car through a house.
Eight-year-old Rein and 9-year-old Leif Seaman were just finishing up their Valentine’s Day when a suspected drunk driver came within feet of them.
"Boom, boom, then it went into the wall," Leif said.
The fence, garbage can and pretty much the entire front of their house was destroyed.
Their mother, Julie Seaman, said she heard it coming.
"I didn't know where it was going to. I knew it was gunning for the house, but I didn’t know where it was going for," Seaman said.
The man behind the wheel was 21-year-old Troy Stork.
"I was right there. He was looking at me and I was looking at him and all I could see was a smile on his face," Rein said.
Bayou La Batre Police Captain Darryl Wilson said Stork was drunk and had marijuana in the car.
"It’s very dangerous with the drugs and alcohol that are mixed together. And then, you take a 5,000 pound car, and it’s just like a ticking time bomb waiting to go off,” Wilson said.
Thankfully, only the home was damaged.
"We had all kinds of stuff by that wall," Leif said.
Seaman said cars speed down her street all the time and saw something like this coming.
"I was kind of like, in a way, prepared because I had run the scenarios in my head before,” Seaman said.
Wilson said the department has patrolled the area to try and cut back on speeders, but the Seaman children think their story will help slow people down.
"They need to slow down on that road,” Leif said.
“Now that that happened, all the people know they shouldn't be speeding," Rein said.
Stork was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, DUI and possession of marijuana.
Stork also had a passenger in the car. He fled the scene, but was picked up and arrested later for possession of marijuana. Both have been released on bond.
