Teen arrested for intimidation in shooting

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile Police said a second teen was arrested in connection to a weekend shooting on Marcus Drive that injured a 16-year-old girl and her friend.

Police confirm Roylonzo Rhodes, 18, was arrested Wednesday evening and charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and intimidating a witness.

Police said Rhodes had contacted Stacia Smith,who was shot in the thigh, and sent her messages threatening to harm her and her family the day after the shooting.

“It frightened me. It really did,” said Smith’s mother, Amanda Mwok who notified authorities about the threats. “I just could not and let him think that he was just going to get away with threatening us and being involved in something like that.”

Smith was still recovering at home on Wednesay, March 20, after she was shot in her front yard.

Witnesses said it began as an argument between two girls over Facebook pictures.

MPD believe 17-year-old Justin Campbell, who traveled to the home with Rhodes, was the shooter and fired at least five rounds. He is charged with second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Campbell however was released from jail less than two hours after he was arrested.

He told FOX10 the shooting was actually in self-defense and did not want to elaborate further.

“I'm sorry for what happened. I'm sorry for how it happened but there is always two sides to every story and I feel like they're not giving the full story of what happened. I just - I'm sorry,” said Campbell.
