PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - Thomas Loyd wants the Prichard Water Board to disappear, and it's all because of his recent water bill.

He lives alone and is on disability. A few weeks ago when he opened the bill, he couldn't believe what he was seeing.

Loyd's water bill is $547.21. He is the one of the many people who have gotten huge water bills in recent years.

"Ridiculous. I got kind of upset," said Loyd.

He supports a vote for change.

Next year, he and other Mobile County voters will decide whether the Prichard Water Board should be taken over by the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System.

Loyd said that should happen, and his water bill is just one reason why.

"I know this is too much to pay for one person on a fixed income," said Loyd.

Leaders with MAWSS said it will be able to lower bills for customers, but the Prichard Water Board said that is not guaranteed.
