Prichard restaurant shooter wanted

PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - Cozy Brown's Kitchen, a popular restaurant in Prichard, was transformed in to a crime scene Wednesday morning.

"Upon officers arriving we found a black male who was shot in the leg several times," said Prichard Police Chief Jimmie Gardner.

Gardner said a fight between two men inside the restaurant spilled out into the parking lot.

Chief Gardner said Anderson Kendricks entered Cozy's, began fighting with Darren Southall, and then walked outside.

"As he went out the other subject walked behind him and of course shot him three times in the leg," said Gardner.

Chief Gardner said Southall is the alleged shooter.

"He will be wanted for attempted murder. He is also subject to be arrested for assault third," said Gardner.

He said Kendricks was taken to USA Medical Center with non-life threatening wounds.

Chief Gardner said he was eating breakfast at Cozy's minutes before the assault happened.

Had he remained while this incident unfolded, the chief said he may have prevented the shooting from happening at all.

"At least I would have had an opportunity to interrupt some part of it, particularly if the fight pursued before the actual shooting," said Gardner. "I was wearing a badge at the time and I would have introduced myself as the police chief."

Cozy Brown's owner declined our request for an interview.

Chief Gardner said Southall and the pregnant woman he was with left Cozy's in a red, Chrysler PT Cruiser.
