MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - After hackers accessed several celebrities’ personal information through a website that allows people to check their credit reports online, FOX10 wanted to find out what the average person could do to keep their information safe.
Hackers were able to access, through the website AnnualCreditReport.com, the financial data on four celebrities using personally identifiable information that Equifax says should only be known to the individual.
“At Equifax, data security is paramount and we have stringent security measures in place for protecting the data entrusted to us. To be clear, the Equifax network has not been compromised and we have not had a breach,” the company said.
Though the average person’s information isn’t in danger, FOX10 looked into what you can do to protect your sensitive information from the prying eyes of hackers.
FOX10 News Reporter Letisha Bush questioned authorities on what you can do to protect yourself, and she’ll have more tonight at 5 p.m.
