PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - Co-workers of Thursday’s gas station shooting victim in Prichard are speaking out about the incident as police continue to search for the suspect.
Co-workers said Bimar Kandel is doing much better but is still in serious condition at USA Medical Center.
Prichard police are still searching for Jamarcus Edmond, the man they said robbed a store clerk at the Raceway on Highway 45.
They haven't located the 21-year-old suspect, but police said they found the getaway car, a red Chevrolet Suburban. It was ditched after the crime.
It all began when authorities said Edmond staked out the convenience store.
Police said around 5 a.m., just before the store opened, Edmond was at the Gas station and waited to talk to the clerk. They said after his stake-out, he went to a restaurant across the street brought breakfast, paid for it, and then left abruptly leaving his food behind.
Police said they believe that Edmond ran back across the street as the clerk was entering the store, and acted as if he was shopping. Police said Edmond pulled out a gun, shot the employee in the stomach then robbed him, taking money from the cash register.
Police said the suspect got away leaving the wounded clerk behind, and they believe he is still armed.
Employees said the clerk is expected to recover, and they just want police to find the shooter.
If you know where Jamarcus Edmond is, please call police at 452-2211.
