MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Alabama Department of Pardons and Parole are conducting an internal investigation into the events that happened in the sally port and docket room in Mobile County Metro Jail.
Officer Steven Green was stabbed by inmate Lawrence Wallace in the sally port at the jail.
The department said there were two probation officers in the docket room and both witnessed the stabbing.
The department confirmed that one of those is Probation Officer Eddie Sharp. Sharp is the fallen officer’s cousin.
Tuesday we spoke to Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran, who described the participation of the two probation officers.
"Personnel inside the docket room saw this all take place; and as quickly as they could get out the door and do two things render aid to Officer Green who came into the docket room. And one of the probation officers who was inside the docket room tried to give chase at the door and at the sally port to the suspect as he fled in the police car,” Cochran said.
The department and the sheriff’s office wouldn't comment on whether Sharp was the officer who attempted to chase Lawrence Wallace; but the department would confirm that Sharp witnessed the stabbing.
No official statement has been issued, but an officer with the department said it is conducting an internal investigation about what happened in the sally port and the docket room.
