Remains identified from dental records

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - According to officials, deputies believe a two year old murder was solved Thursday, March 14 after remains were identified using the victim’s dental records. It started when human remains were discovered just over a week ago and then identified.

Bryan Gibson had plenty to say as he was being taken into custody Thursday night. Accused of murder in a nearly two year old case, deputies said Gibson had been a suspect in the disappearance of Michael Watson from the beginning.

"We discovered several inconsistencies in the statements by Mr. Gibson, and we also executed search warrants at his residence and in his vehicle. We had determined blood belonging to the missing person in his vehicle," said Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran.

Cochran said Gibson was the last person to have been with Watson. Cochran said the discovery of Watson's remains sealed the deal for Gibson's arrest. The remains were found more than a week ago at a illegal dump site.

"The suspect has a very lengthy criminal history, a violent history involving lots of drug usage and drug paraphernalia," Cochran said.

Cochran said Watson was shot and believes Gibson dumped his body after he killed him. Cochran said he believe it was over products to make meth.

Cochran said ironically, when deputies went to arrest Gibson, he was coming out of a store with psuedoephedrine. Cochran said there were also other materials in Watson's vehicle. He's been charged with murder, possession of pre-cursor chemicals, possession of narcotics paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance. 

We did speak with Watson's wife, but she did not want to do an on camera interview at this time.
