MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - CNN said that the largest retailer in America, Walmart, is now limiting the amount of ammunition sold in its stores. As you can imagine, there are plenty of opinions on the matter.
"To me, you should be able to get what you want," said Butch Munsey.
"I think you should buy what you want. If you need it buy it, that's why they're here to see products," said shopper Al Cunningham.
That was the consensus outside the Saraland Walmart. As word spreads about the gun control debate in Washington, there's increasing demand for ammunition. It's flying off shelves.
Walmart just announced that it will limit customers to three boxes per day, per customer.
"Should be first come, first serve, but then you'd have people buying up everything that comes in. It's better business for them," said Joe Henderson.
A few weeks ago a representative told FOX10's Bob Grip this in regards to ammunition at the chain:
"I think what's important to us is to let our customers know that we will continue to serve them, or serve our customers in this area, just as we have in the past." (Grip) "So you're not stopping the sale of ammunition?" "Correct," the representative responded.
Munsey said people are scurrying to get the ammunition at the Saraland Walmart location.
'I went in there today, myself, and looked and they had nothing in there but shotgun shells," Munsey said.
Cunningham said it's been hyped out of proportion.
"People are afraid of not being able to buy guns, afraid that civilization is going to melt down," Cunningham said. "Fear has entered our minds, and it's not a good thing."
FOX10 tried to contact Walmart through its corporate offices in Arkansas to get a comment on the decision, but have not yet received a reply.
