Residents on high alert following possible van lurker

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - FOX10 News continues to investigate a scary situation in western Mobile County that was first reported Thursday night, March 21 on FOX10 News at 9 p.m. A man in a white van followed a woman to her home.

Many of you are calling and messaging us about the incident and the community is on alert.

Sharon Johnston can serve you a great lunch and the last couple of days, comes advice as well.

"Everybody has their eyes peeled now," said Johnston.

Johnston said after our story aired, the incident where a man followed a woman home Tuesday night has become the talk of the town.

"This morning a lady came in and said at the bus stop every parent was there with their children because they're scared someone's going to kidnap their kids," Johnston said.

Men in particular, she said, have been outspoken.

"They were just saying they're worried about their wives coming home or being in parking lots," said Johnston.

Tuesday night's victim came up on the white van at the intersection of Dawes Road and Dawes Lane, the van had its flashers on. The victim said the driver flagged her to drive past. The victim said when she turned into her neighborhood, she noticed the van was following, he then pulled up beside her.

"I didn't answer anything he said. He asked me my name and I didn't respond," said Paige Murph.

Murph said it wasn't until her neighbor pulled up, did the man leave. Now a community is on alert.

"It is scary, especially for a woman to be out here," said Johnston.

Sheriff's officials said there were no reported incidents from Thursday night but that doesn't mean to let your guard down.

The man in the van is described to be a white male, in his early 30's, with brown hair, and a beard.

The sheriff's office is on alert in this area and we will continue to call about this incident and will let you know if any other incidents are reported.
