West Mobile homes, cars burglarized, residents say

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Some west Mobile neighbors said they were burglarized recently, and want others to be wary of the situation.

Monday, January 21, residents on Warrington Drive told FOX10 News that when they reported their break-ins to police, the authorities told them similar crimes had happened on a nearby street.

"They kicked the door in, got the big-screen TV, got the laptop computer," said Brian Lollar of west Mobile.

Lollar said his girlfriend's home was hit on Thursday and he said none of his neighbors on Warrington Dr. saw or heard anything.

"Very surprising actually, because I know a few of the neighbors over here, they stay here during the day," said Lollar.

He guessed that the crime happened between 10 a.m. and noon, in broad daylight.

"We've pretty much got our guard up, any car that comes down here day or night we're on alert," said Lollar.

Lollar contacted police, and is waiting to hear back from a detective. As darkness fell Thursday on Warrington Drive, hours after Lollar's break-in, another resident said another crime took place, just a few houses away.

"Friday morning, my husband went out to go to work, he came right back in and said, 'You better call police,' I said, 'Why?' He said, 'My car was broken into,'" said Marion Kirschner of west Mobile.

Kirschner said she and her husband went in the house around 10 p.m. on Thursday. She said he became distracted and left his truck door unlocked.

"He said they didn't take anything but his handgun," said Kirschner.

Kirschner said their .40 caliber Taurus handgun was stolen, while two deterrents did little to stop the thief.

"Both of our dogs are right there in the pen, six feet from where we park the vehicle and we have a big outdoor light -- the area was very well lit," said Kirschner.

The Kirshners filed a report with Mobile Police and police told them other break-ins happened on nearby Diamond Avenue recently.

Mobile Police were unavailable for comment about these incidents because of the holiday on Monday.

Warrington Drive runs east off of Sollie Road, near Three Notch-Kroner Road. Diamond Avenue is a North-South street, perpendicular to Warrington Drive.
