Gun retailers pay attention to gun debate

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Gun retailers and range owners across the country have been watching the debate on gun control closely.

We’ve talked about the masses flooding into gun shops buying up the inventory in fear of what will happen next. Gary Mozingo is the owner of Gunport in Coden. It’s a gun range that trains people in all areas, even military.

Mozingo doesn't think Washington will take guns away; but unlike in the past, thinks some regulations restricting sales will be re-instated.

"I really don't know, and I know there’s going to be another play to either further restrict or change what we can buy and what we can use. There will be," said Mozingo.

Monday, Jan. 14, Vice President Joe Biden met with President Obama to give recommendations from Biden’s gun task force.

"What should we be doing to make our children safe? And that we are reducing the instances of gun violence, and I think we can do it in a sensible way that comports with the second amendment,” said President Obama.

Background checks and a ban on assault rifles are key topics being discussed.

Mozingo said he expects to see regulations on ammunition. Something echoed in sporting goods stores and gun sops across the country.
Mozingo’s shelves are also wiped out

"People are scared, and they are buying everything they can get their hands on,” said Mozingo.

The President is also expected to recommend a ban on high-capacity clips.

"Anyone that's practiced anytime at all can change out a magazine in 10 seconds," said Mozingo.

Mozingo thinks the regulations and attacks on gun sales and ammunition are a futile effort.

To him, the focus needs to be on the person not the equipment.

"They don’t care where they are pointed. When you pull a trigger, they will go with all vim and vigor where they are pointed. So it’s the heart of the individual with the weapon,” said Mozingo.

Mozingo said this mad dash to buy up all of the guns and ammunition is something he has seen before; right after President Obama was elected for his first term.

He said since then the price of weapons and ammunition has gone up dramatically which he is seeing now.
