MOBLE, Ala. (WALA) - A Mobile County man is in jail after police said he robbed a Moffett Road convenience store early Friday morning. Mobile Police said it was all over a few packs of cigarettes.

Police said Demetrius Andrews Sneed walked into the Clark Gas Station at 4063 Moffett Road shortly before 1:00 a.m. and indicated he had a gun. After demanding 10 packs of cigarettes from the clerk, police said he left the scene in a Ford Escape.

"Around one o'clock, an alert patrol officer spotted a vehicle that matched the description that was put out from the robbery and he initiated a stop,” said Corporal Christopher Levy with Mobile Police.

That was in the Trinity Gardens, just a few miles away. After refusing to stop, a pursuit began.

"It wasn't just a long on-going pursuit. Thank goodness, because there was no property damage as a result,” Levy said.

The chase ended on Dunlap Circle in Prichard where officers had to chase the suspect down on foot before apprehending him. Sneed's mug shot shows him still in a hospital gown.

"He did require some medical treatment, nothing serious. He didn’t stay at the hospital very long and then went on to jail,” explained Levy.

Ten packs of stolen cigarettes were recovered from Sneed and he will remain in Metro Jail with no bond through the weekend.

Sneed has an extensive arrest record in Mobile County dating back to 1989. An investigation is underway to see if he may be involved in other area robberies.
