MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Mobile Historic Development Commission is giving historic homeowners help with repairing their roof. The MHDC is holding a public informational meeting Tuesday.
The new Historic Homeowners Roof Deferred Loan program is based on income. Income limits are: one person less than $29,000; two persons less than $33,200; three persons less than $37,350; four persons less than $41,500.
Those who qualify can receive up to $12,000 deferred loan. The loan must be used for exterior roof repair or roof replacement. The work must keep with the historic character of the property, be approved by the MHDC and the Architectural Review Board, and be conducted by prequalified contractors.
Funds can be used for roof work that includes structural trusses related to the roof, and eave work including soffitt and fascia boards.
The loan is forgiven over a five-year period as a silent second mortgage.
The public meeting will be Tuesday, October 9 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Commission staff will be at the Thomas Sullivan Community Center, 351 North Catherine Street to discuss the program.
Applications will be accepted through November 2, 2012 with work to begin on approved properties shortly thereafter. Full details are available on the MHDC website (Mobilehd.org) or direct from the Commission, P.O. Box 1827, Mobile, AL 36633. Call 251-208-7281 for further information.
