PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - Voters in several Gulf Coast cities will head to the polls Tuesday to decide run-off elections. One that people have been watching is the Prichard mayoral race.
Both campaigns were hard at work Tuesday getting people on board in the final hours.
Mayor Ron Davis has held the seat for the past eight years and hopes to keep it.
"I’ve had no creditably issues and that’s valuable, and that’s been something to be thankful for in Prichard. And I’m willing to continue work for the people of Prichard," said Davis.
Prichard City Councilman Troy Ephriam, who’s served 12 years on the Prichard City Council, was hitting the streets hoping to take Davis’s job.
"It’s been a long journey, but it’s been a very good journey. Being able to represent the citizens of Prichard is an honor. It’s a privilege, and I’m excited about that opportunity tomorrow," said Ephriam.
Ephriam has run on the slogan, "Prichard our time has come." He said his number one priority if elected is to bring revenue and growth to the city.
"After many years of decline, many years of the city not being able to fulfill itself as a viable strong city, able to financially stand on its own, able to community wise improve itself and grow. The time has come," said Ephriam.
The Davis campaign uses the phrase, "Achieving the unachievable," something he says people will see more of if he keeps his job.
"We’re doing some economic development. We’ve been doing it but it’s been on the small scale with the mom and pop stores and trying to get those type things here. We’ve been getting small industry in here but l’m working very hard to get the large industries here,” said Davis.
Both candidates said their biggest challenge will be to get people to the polls.
