MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama is prepared to feed 1,000 people a Thanksgiving feast this holiday.

Before the sun came up Oscar Smith was hard at work, putting the finishing touches on the Salvation Army's Thanksgiving meal.

Head Chef Cecil Morris said they started getting ready days ago.

"Actually started last Friday got all of the turkeys in," said Morris. "Now we are making our stock for the dressing."

On the menu: all of the traditional Thanksgiving trimmings including 80 turkeys, 150 pounds of cornbread and 25 pounds of gravy.

Public Relations Director Katie Emer said it takes an army of volunteers make this meal possible.

"We could not do what we do without the support of the community," she said. "From the donations of food coming in, the community has really stepped up to help us provide this for our neighbors in need."

Emer said 100 volunteers will help serve this Thanksgiving.

She said it's all about making sure someone has somewhere to go and something to eat on Thanksgiving.
