MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Salvation Army is preparing to feed the hungry for Christmas but what happens if severe weather rolls through the area?
Cecil Morris has been preparing to have around 1,000 people for Christmas.
"Some people come just for the companionship to be around people on Christmas Day. Some people come because they are homeless, and they have a need. Some people come just to hang out with us. We’re alright," said Morris.
The turkey is ready and the dressing is on its way but there is something else cooking. Severe weather may be on the menu.
"We prepare for all different disasters and emergencies that may come to this area," said Morris.
In the event severe weather does come our way, the Salvation Army has emergency canteens, or trailers, stocked and ready to go.
"We’re standing by. We don't know if we have to go to Clarke County, Washington County, here in Mobile County. If we’re called out of the state, we go out of state,” said Morris.
The Salvation Army has prepared 800 additional sandwiches to take to disaster victims if a storm hits.
The main location is going to remain open to serve hot meals.
"It’s going to be full service out of this kitchen as long as the building is still standing," said Morris.
The Salvation Army is set to begin serving at 11 a.m. Tuesday. However, officials said if need be, it will open earlier to give shelter from a storm.
