SATSUMA, Ala. (WALA) - Traffic was backed up for several hours on southbound 1-65 after an 18-wheeler left the road and hit a tree on Tuesday.

Satsuma Police Chief Chris Mclean said the driver lost control of the vehicle during heavy rain around 4:30 a.m. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Traffic was rerouted from I-65 to Highway 43, which resulted a backup during the school rush hour.

A  wrecker was able to remove the tractor trailer around 10 a.m.
