SATSUMA, Ala. (WALA) - The city of Satsuma was forced to cancel its annual Veterans Day parade on Monday because of rain, but the town still honored its veterans with a special program at the school annex.

Mayor Paul Murray said he was pleased with the turnout for the fifth iteration of the annual event. The program was held in honor of all the men and women who have served, as well has those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Ninety-one-year-old George Moody was among dozens of veterans who attended the program. Moody, who served in the Army during World War II, said he was glad to see so many people show their appreciation.

Veteran Dean Black said even though he didn’t get to ride in the parade as its Grand Marshal, he wasn’t disappointed.
