MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A source close to Alabama State Governor Robert Bentley confirms the Governor will be in Mobile Monday for “an Airbus announcement.”

The Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce sent out invitations Friday, for an “exciting Economic Development Announcement” set to take place at the Mobile Convention Center Monday morning.

State and local leaders, as well as big engineering and contracting companies were also invited to the event.

Senator Richard Shelby also told FOX10 News, he will be in Mobile Sunday night.

"I'll be coming down Sunday evening,” said Senator Shelby. “I'll have dinner with a lot of very important people in Mobile and also people from around the world. And we're anticipating a very positive announcement, but we have to wait on that announcement. We're not there yet."

A number of sources have said European jet maker Airbus plans to open an aircraft assembly plant in Mobile to build A320 passenger jets.
