Red Cross shelter opens for tornado victims

PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - Officials with the  said the American Red Cross Alabama Gulf Coast Chapter opened a shelter at 10 p.m. on Dec. 25 for those impacted by the Christmas Day tornado.

Organizers said at the shelter, Red Cross volunteers will be helping residents impacted by the storm by offering a safe place to stay, a hot meal, and a shoulder to lean on.

They said in the days and weeks to come, the Alabama Gulf Coast Chapter will be coordinating with emergency officials and local community partners to help residents impacted by the tornado get back on their feet.

The shelter is located at City of Prichard Public Safety Building at 743 Mt. Sinai Avenue in Prichard, Ala.
