PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) -

It was a breathtaking and heartbreaking sight Wednesday morning, as law enforcement officers turned out in droves for fallen Mobile Police Officer Steven Green's funeral.

As far the eye could see, law enforcement officers showed up at the Sunlight District Auditorium in honor of fallen Officer Steven Green.

A somber moment as Green's flag draped casket was lifted out of a white hearse and into the arms of his fellow brothers in blue.

Men and women bearing a badge came from all over to pay their final respects.

"We want to show our support to Mobile Police Department and Officer Green. Police work is a bother hood and want to show our support," said Jackson Police Chief Charles Burge.

Green's family filed into the services surrounded by hundreds of police officers, sheriff's deputies, and state troopers all bound by their oath to serve and protect.

"So, today all our brothers and sisters in law enforcement come together to show support for family and department that we are united in our battle against crime and do come together in tragedy," said Baldwin County Sheriff Huey "Hoss" Mack.

Officers said they aren't surprised by the overwhelming support shown by everyday people, but regret that it was too late for Green to see.

Former Mobile Police Chief Phillip Garrett said it is a sad day that brings back painful memories.

"(It’s) heartbreaking because thirty months ago we buried Brandon Sigler. When this happened, it was like that day all over again. And we lost a good man, a soldier in the fight; and that is sad. The community needs to step up and support our police department," Garrett said.

So, it is with heavy hearts and black ribbons over their badges they say goodbye to the father of three and a friend of many.

Green’s family said he always wanted to be a police officer and serve his community. Officer Green joined the Mobile Police Department in May of 2010.

He was 36 years old, and he is survived by his wife and three children.
