CALVERT, Ala. (WALA) - A company in our area is looking to fill 150 positions. Outokumpu Stainless is accepting applications starting tomorrow.
"We've merged with one of our competitors out of Finland, Outokumpu; so officially January 1, we've changed names. It's still the same growth pattern and plan to grow here in the US," said VP of Human Resources Dave Schied.
You may be more familiar with ThyssenKrupp, who once owned this part of the company.
"We're staffing up the third and fourth shift for the melt shop so this is the final piece of the puzzle here on the stainless side and we have the first two shifts running now so later this year we're going to be adding the other shifts," Schied said.
Mainly being filled are operator and maintenance positions.
"We'd like to have steel or stainless experience but it's not necessary. People that have worked in heavy industry before would be a plus but we're looking for the desire and skill to learn," said Schied.
Here's more information about the fair:
Outokumpu Stainless USA, formerly Thyssenkrupp Stainless USA, in Calvert is looking to hire 150 full time positions.
The sale of the steel mill was completed in December making Outokumpu the largest stainless manufacturer in the world. The Calvert site's new positions will fulfill the remaining shift positions at the Melt Shop that came online late last year, as well as some additional positions at the Cold Rolling Mill.
The positions includes operator, maintenance, electrical and mechanical position. Pay starts at $19 an hour and can go up to $27 an hour depending on experience, plus incentives. Though not a requirement, heavy industry, steel or stainless-making experience is a plus.
All applications must first apply online at aidt.edu/jobs . If job seekers have already applied with Thyssenkrupp Stainless USA, there is no need to reapply but applications should be updated.
A job fair is planned Saturday, January 12, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the AIDT Erich Heine Learning Center at 4 Second Street in Calvert.
Outokumpu Stainless USA and Alabama Industrial Development Training Human Resources and Training representatives will be on hand to discuss qualifications job seekers.
